Our Story

The story begins in 1966 when a group of evangelical clergy, seeking to give young people a new, relevant language to worship God, published the ground-breaking Youth Praise with a launch in Westminster Central Hall. Together with the second volume, Youth Praise 2, it went on to sell over a million copies and change the sound and style of worship for a whole generation.

Numerous hymn books were published in the subsequent years, including Psalm Praise and Hymns for Today’s Church, with its modernised versions of classic hymn texts which led to the launch of the Jubilate label in the early 1980s. Over 1500 new hymns were published under this label, from writers across the UK and beyond .

In the early 2000s Resound Worship was created, a new generation of contemporary songwriters carrying forward the Jubilate values.

In 2016 the Song & Hymn Writers Foundation (SHWF) was formed, to bring all the work of Jubilate and Resound Worship within the umbrella of one charitable organisation with one goal: to enrich the song of the Church.

Today SHWF champions the role of the local church song and hymn writer across the world, providing workshops, courses and online communities, while continuing to offer its own unique contribution to the Church’s canon of song.

Our trading subsidiary, Jubilate Hymns Ltd, continues to offer agency services to writers, representing their works to publishers and churches.
